Non-Toxic Flea & Tick Repellent

tick & flea sprayLast spring we got a new puppy. First thing I did after bringing Louie home was head to our local natural pet store, Nature’s Feed. I wanted to make sure that we were getting the best for our Louie.

One thing I really struggled with was a safe alternative to those chemical flea control products. I knew I did not want to use them but also did not want fleas in the house or even worse, my poor puppy getting bite by a tick and getting sick. So I wanted to find something to keep the bugs away while still being safe and chemical free.

What I found was that many different essential oils were great bug repellents. Below is the recipe I use for Louie. It will not only keep away fleas and ticks but also mosquitoes.

Non-Toxic Flea & Tick Repellent

Combine all ingredients in a spray bottle. Shake well. Lightly spray and rub into coat. Shake well before each use.

The company that I have chosen to order all my essential oils from is Young Living. They do not use any synthetic chemicals or pesticides or herbicides on their plants (they use essential oils to deter pests and pull weeds by hand). They are also 100% therapeutic grade and far higher quality than anything you’ll find on the grocery store shelves.

You can read more about why I chose Young Living for all my essential oils or can check out Drops of EO to learn more about Young Living and essential oils. If you need help ordering the essential oils or would like us to come out and spray for you, just get in touch. We are always here to help.

Natural Spider Repellent

spider repellant I really hate all creepy crawly insects. I recently got the nerve to kill spiders on my own. I just do not like them. The problem is, my daughter is a complete nature nut that loves all things in nature, including insects and bug.

Emma does not want me to kill any spiders or bugs that come in the house. She has small bug houses and tries catching them to keep in her habitat. Watching her pick up spiders with her bare hands just sends shivers up my spine. But I do respect her love for bugs and love her enthusiasm. With that said, I still do not want bugs, especially spiders in my house! The best way not to have a “discussion” with her about what to do with the spider we find crawling around, is just to keep them out of the house. Yes I choose to avoid the situation. So how do you keep spiders away?

spider repellantI make up a natural spider repellent and spray that everywhere! Here is my secret weapon against those 8 legged terrors!
